Assess the Damage: Is it a Scuff or a Cut?

Type A: Surface Scuff. The leather is lighter in color, looking "dry" or "chalky," but the surface isn't physically sliced open. This is just displaced oils and fibers.
Type B: Deep Scratch/Cut. You can feel a flap of skin, or you can see the fibrous suede underneath the top grain. This is structural damage.

The Fix for Type A (Scuffs)

Method 1: The Thumb Rub (For Pull-Up Leather)
If you have an oil-tanned jacket (like a Schott mechanic jacket):
1. Rub the scratch vigorously with the pad of your thumb.
2. The friction creates heat, which melts the waxes and oils in the surrounding leather.
3. The oils flow into the light scratch, darkening it back to the original color. It’s magic.

Method 2: The Hair Dryer Hack
1. Apply a tiny dot of leather conditioner to the scratch.
2. Rub it in circular motions.
3. Use a hair dryer on LOW heat (hold it 6 inches away) to warm the area for 10-15 seconds.
4. Rub again. The heat helps the conditioner penetrate deep into the fibers.

The Fix for Type B (Deep Scratches/Cuts)

1. Glue Down The Flap
If there is a flap of leather hanging loose:
1. Use a toothpick to apply a microscopic amount of flexible leather glue (like Eco-Flo) under the flap. Do NOT use Super Glue (it dries hard and brittle).
2. Press the flap down.
3. Wipe away excess glue instantly.
4. Tape it down with masking tape for 1 hour to let it set.

2. Color Restoration
If the scratch is deep and white/grey (the dye is gone):
1. You need a "Leather Recoloring Balm" or Shoe Polish that matches your jacket.
2. Apply a tiny amount with a Q-tip to the scratch only.
3. Buff it after drying.
