The $800 Illusion

In 2010, if you wanted a Full-Grain leather jacket, you went to a department store and paid $800.
In 2026, you can get the same jacket for $350 online. What changed?

The Traditional Retail Math

1. Factory Cost: $80 (Leather + Labor + Zippers).
2. Brand Markup (Wholesale): Brand sells to Store for $200. (Brand makes $120 profit).
3. Retail Markup: Store sells to YOU for $600-$800. (Store needs 3-4x markup to pay for Rent, Staff, unsold inventory).

The DTC (Direct-to-Consumer) Revolution

1. Factory Cost: $80.
2. Brand Markup: Brand sells to YOU for $300.
You save $500. The jacket is identical. In fact, many DTC brands use the exact same factories as the luxury labels.

The Trade-Off

With DTC, you lose the "Experience." You can't sip champagne in a boutique. You get a cardboard box in the mail.
If you care about the jacket more than the shopping bag, DTC is the only logical choice.
