Extreme Cold? Here's How to Layer a Leather Jacket for Sub-Zero Weather
Don't Freeze for Fashion
A common mistake: "Leather is heavy, so it must be warm."
Wrong. Leather is a conductor. It gets cold. If you wear a leather jacket over a t-shirt in 30°F weather, you will freeze.
But you can wear leather in the snow. You just need the 3-Layer System.
Layer 1: The Base (Moisture Management)
Material: 100% Merino Wool (150-200 GSM).
Function: It wicks sweat away from your skin.
Avoid: Cotton. Cotton gets wet and stays wet. "Cotton kills."
Layer 2: The Mid (Insulation)
Material: Cashmere Sweater, Heavy Flannel Shirt, or a Thin Down Vest (Uniqlo style).
Function: It traps warm air against your body.
Layer 3: The Shell (Wind/Water Protection)
Material: Your Heavy Cowhide or Shearling Leather Jacket.
Function: It stops the Arctic wind from blowing away the warm air trapped by Layer 2.
The Accessory Hack
Your neck is the chimney of your body heat. Seal it.
A Chunky Wool Scarf tucked inside the zipped-up leather jacket makes the outfit 20 degrees warmer.
